Description
Sora Pods or sororoca clusters are the woody fruit capsules from the Strelitzia family of plants, which are related to the Bird of Paradise plant. After the vibrant flower has withered, a hard, three-lobed capsule forms. As this capsule dries, it splits open to reveal the seeds, and the remaining structure becomes the decorative "sora pod." These pods are valued for their unique, architectural shape and durability.
Product Details:
- Source Location: Africa.
-
Size: Each pod is highly variable. Approximately 4 to 6 inches long and approximately 2.5 to 5 inches wide depending on how much the flower opened.
- 100% Natural: Organically sourced and naturally dried, these pods are free from artificial chemicals, making them a safe and sustainable choice for various applications.
-
Highly Versatile:
- Aquarium: Ideal for creating a "blackwater" habitat. When properly prepared, they slowly release a moderate amount of tannins, which can naturally lower pH levels and provide a food source for invertebrates, shrimp, and bottom-dwelling fish as they develop biofilm.
- Bioactive Terrarium: Isopods and springtails enjoy hiding in these pods, and they provide some texture to a bioactive terrarium floor. Serves as a food source for Isopods and springtails, enriches the substrate by releasing nutrients as they break down, and encourages natural and instinctive behaviors such as foraging and exploring.
-
Botanical Home Decor: Beautiful statement piece as shelf decor, tablescape, or natural decor.
- Craft & Art Projects: Their unique shape and texture inspire endless creative possibilities in wreaths, mixed media art, and more.
Preparation for Aquarium Use:
- Boil: Boil the cones/pods for at least 60 to sterilize and help them become waterlogged.
- Soak: After boiling, soak in clean, cold water overnight.
- Ready to Use: Once they sink, they are ready to add to your tank.
Please Note: As a natural product, each sora pod will vary in size, shape, and color. These pods are intended for decorative, craft, and aquarium/vivarium use only. These pods are not intended for human consumption.
