Description

Trumpet pods, also known as Jequitiba pods, are thick seed pods that are the product of the Cariniana legalis tree. These pods are extremely dense and durable.

Source Location: Peru.
Size: 3 to 3.5 inches in long. The opening is approximately 0.5 inches to 0.75 inches in diameter.

Aquarium: When properly prepared, they can release a moderate amount of tannin, promote biofilm, and they provide unique hiding spots and contribute to a natural environment which stimulates natural behaviors for fish and shrimp and act as a spawning site for them as well. These pods are very sturdy.
Bioactive Terrariums: Provides hiding spots and a food source for isopods, and springtails, enriches the substrate by releasing nutrients as they break down, and encourages natural and instinctive behaviors such as forging and exploring.

Preparation for Aquarium/Paludarium Use:

Boil: Boil the pods for at least 30 minutes to help them sink and leach initial tannins.
Soak: Soak in clean water overnight or longer if needed, changing the water daily, until they are fully waterlogged and the desired amount of tannin has been leached.
Ready to Use: Once they sink and you've achieved your desired water coloration, they are ready to be added to your setup.

Live animal flat-rate USPS 2-3 Day Priority Mail shipping is $18. Live arrival guarantee with USPS if your temperature is 45F to 80F. If your temperature is outside this range, request hold for pick up in the text box above the add to cart button by typing the word HOLD. The box will be held at the post office that services your ZIP code. All boxes held for pick up are covered by the live arrival guarantee.

We ship Monday through Wednesday only to minimize the risk of the live animals being delayed in possible harsh weather conditions over the weekend. Depending on the current temperatures, shipping may occur on Saturday so the isopods/springtails travel during ideal weather conditions.

*For USPS, if your temperature is under 45F or above 80F, the box must be held for pick up at your local hub or post office for the live arrival guarantee. Even if you will be home to receive the package, these are live animals and they cannot survive extreme temperatures in a hot or cold delivery vehicle all day. If your temps are below 40F, it is unsafe to ship live animals, and the animals will not be shipped until the temperature is above 40F in your area. Live arrival guaranteed for the count purchased. Hold for pick up can be requested by typing HOLD in text box located near the "quantity" button or in the notes at checkout. Your order will be held for pick up at your local post office.
