Bioactive Desert/Semi-Arid Enclosure *Bug Den Kit* with Clean Up Crew

 This bug den bioactive clean-up crew kit contains:

*One small piece of natural cork bark (approximately 3"x4" but cork bark will vary in size)

*Approximately 10 grams of dry sphagnum moss (a large handful)

*A quart of leaf litter (varies upon availability but is usually maple, oak, sea grape, palm leaves, or live oak leaves) 

*One culture of 20+ Trichorhina tomentosa Dwarf White isopods

*15+ P. pruinosus Party Mix isopods

*8 oz. culture of a mixture of semi-arid species of springtails on substrate.  

This combo pack will provide the essential microfauna for your bioactive enclosure.  These are safe and appropriate for most desert/semi-arid reptiles.  This kit is intended for 25- to 50-gallon enclosures.  If your enclosure is over 60 gallons, please see the listing for 60+gallon enclosures.

Other isopods/springtails that do well in semi-arid bioactive enclosures include any P. pruinosus (Powder Blue, Orange, Oreo Crumble, Orange Cream, Red Koi, Lepidocyrtus fimicolus 24K,  Seira dowlingi Silver, Coecobrya communis Tropical/Pink. and P. laevis Gray/Dairy Cow/Milkback/Orange/White; however, use caution when using P. laevis them as a clean-up crew with small animals as they enjoy protein, and there is always a rare chance P. laevis could injure small animals if the isopods are not provided enough leaves or supplemental food such as veggie scraps and dried protein such as mealworms or fish flake.

Isopods will be shipped in a container of organic peat moss, sphagnum moss, and organic leaf litter.  Springtails are shipped in a container of topsoil and peat moss.  Both containers can be simply dumped on top of the enclosure's substrate.  There is no need to "bury" them in the substrate.

A thick layer of leaf litter at all times is the key to a thriving isopod colony.
