Jumping Spider Bioactive Enclosure

If you've been considering a bioactive enclosure for your jumping spider, here is some information on jumping spider bioactive habitats.  We keep our adult Phidippus regius "Regal" jumping spiders in small natural bioactive enclosures.  Our adult spiders are housed individually in 4x4x8 and 8x5x10 acrylic habitats, and it is very simple to create a bioactive enclosure for your jumping spider.

Some of the biggest benefits of our jumping spider enclosures being bioactive are they hold humidity well due to the damp soil and sphagnum moss, they have a natural aesthetic appearance, the natural plants and decor provide the spider with enrichment, and the isopods and springtails clean up the leftover food particles discarded by the regal jumping spiders.

The way we constructed our spider bioactive terrariums is we added about an inch of damp peat moss to the bottom of the habitat.  Then we added a mixed species springtail culture and 20 dwarf white isopods.  We then added a small handful of leaf litter, just enough to make sure there are a few leaves on top of the soil because isopods need leaf litter to thrive, and then we added a handful of damp sphagnum moss just enough to cover the leaves and soil.  Finally, we added all of our natural decorations such as a piece of cork bark, cholla wood, plants, some webbing ribbon, and we did add some magnetic ledges we made of cork bark.

Our spiders Tiki and Poppy love their bioactive terrariums.  We do offer a jumping spider bioactive habitat clean-up crew which is on a soil substrate, so the crew can easily be used as the soil substrate in your small enclosure or simply dumped on top of your soil substrate if your enclosure is on the larger side and requires more than 8 ounces of soil, which is the size of the cup the clean-up crew comes in.  If you need some additional help, please send us a chat or an email.
